Intro [Aug. 1st, 2007|04:19 pm]
Service Headquarters
Hi there, my name is kate and I found my way here through serista's journal (you were holding out on me dude!) *smiles*

Anyways, I'm fairly heavily service oriented, both towards G and just in general. In fact, I can be a bit crazy in the clean and neat and homey department. Not crazily perfect (don't I wish) but I do try. Looking forward to reading and posting!

Edit to Post: totally forgot too... I'm an interior designer at the moment and am rather obsessed with color (yes, since I do this for a living I'm perfectly good at bland neutral too. *smile*)

Blood stains [May. 3rd, 2007|10:00 am]
Service Headquarters
Hello everyone,
This is an ongoing pursuit for me; my apologies if this topic has been covered (please feel free to direct me to the proper links/posts/etc.)

I am trying desperately hard to keep our house clean, and failing miserably: our cat is very ill, and has constant bleeding wounds. We have meds for him, and look after his wounds, but the result is that there are constant blood stains over everything, and I am having a hard time staying on top of it.

Bedding and furniture is ok -- I manage to keep those clean and stain-feee -- but our wall-to-wall carpeting (a short, beige pile) is covered in hundreds of small blood stains. (And as soon as I scrub one, there appears another.)

I have tried laundry detergent/stain remover, pet carpet cleaners, peroxide, club soda, baking soda, dishwashing liquid, shampoo... Nothing removes the blood completely.

Any tip would be appreciated, and I thank you all in advance.

Time Savers [Feb. 18th, 2007|06:03 am]
Service Headquarters
Everyone's busy right, so what are some of your favorite time savers around the home?  Both Master and i work full-time but eating healthy foods cooked from scratch is very important to us so i've found different ways to make that easier...

- i chop lettuce and salad fixings and store them in containers so that lunch salads are easy to assemble each morning
- i make pizza crusts in bulk once every couple of months and freeze them for quick dinners, etc.
- i home can dry beans to save cooking time and money
- We aren't afraid of leftovers, so i cook meals purposely a few days a week to have leftovers for the next night
- i have a crock pot and i'm not afraid to use it
- i write a meal plan - it remains flexible in case of surprise night out or unexpected leftovers, etc. but just having that lets me know if i need to perhaps cook rice the night before so dinner is quick the next night

Other things i do:
- i clean one room a day from top to bottom, makes life easier and neater for me
- i keep an old-fashioned paper planner (some day i'll get a palm pilot) and i use it faithfully for everything from scheduling meetings to scheduling when to descale the coffee pot
- i keep my workout clothes right next to the alarm clock, so i can just get up and go and sleep that extra few minutes

i look forward to reading what other folks do and learning a new trick or two

Massive Link Organization [Jan. 31st, 2007|07:53 pm]
Service Headquarters

[mood |busy]

I use my personal laptop for work so I have always been apprehensive about bookmarking "lifestyle" oriented links. Today, a friend gave me several good links on Bootblacking and I realized I needed a way to store this information, especially since many of the sites might be work or travel safe.

I have created an Excel file with the following categories:
General Lifestyle
Toy Care
Keeping a Home
Toy Stores
Groups (Online and RealTime)

I am going to start keeping links here so that I can start working my way through many of the subjects and can send it to anyone who is interested or build a google spreadsheet for it so we can all read it.

What I am looking for is any suggestions for topics I missed in the list and also, what sites would you recommend or have you found particularly helpful in these areas.

Cleaning Log [Jan. 23rd, 2007|08:28 am]
Service Headquarters

[mood |busy]

I made a 3 month cleaning log for us to follow. Things like laundry, trash and dishes are a daily chore when home so they are not included. The rules are we can get up to one week behind if needed and can work up to one week ahead, but if we do anything beyond that then it is just extra.
We simply check the colored box when we've finished the task for that week.

We may need to do some things more frequently or less. I am a bit of a clean freak. If anyone notices any of the "basics" that I've missed, please let me know. Once we get this routine solidified, we will probably start allocating time for the organizational drudgery that I really need- (organizing files on the computer, spending time scrapbooking or organizing photos, going through and filing receipts and recipes and the like). Our house is always within 30 minutes of company ready, but I eventually want to have every aspect of my life organized. I don't know, there's just a very simple sort of peace for having everything in its proper place.

Just a short rant... [Jan. 18th, 2007|03:10 pm]

Does any one else find trouble when folding shirts?

Or do I just have some sort of acute shirt-folding learning disability?
